NJFDC’s is Powered by Volunteers!

Find out how you can help.

  • Inclusive Markets Interns

NJFDC maintains an up-to-date and accurate list of all NJ farmers markets accepting NJ SNAP. Each year, beginning in March, we begin to update the list from the prior calendar year, and make associated changs to the map. We ensure all information about how to use NJ SNAP at farmers’ makets, and how farmers and market managers can become authorized, is as accurate as possible.

Beginning in Janaury, we will be recruiting up to three volunteers or interns to complete this project. Familiarity with Google Docs and updating Google Maps, or willingness to learn quickly, is necessary.

  • Resource Directory Managers

NJFDC maintains two online resource directories, a Food System Resources Directory and a Farmer Resource Directory. We are looking for volunteers to help keep these directories up to date. This includes ensuring all current entries are still accurate and reaching out to the members of the FDC network (and beyond) to scan for additional resources that should be included. This can be done in one semester or spread throughout the year with a 1-2 hour/per week committment (roughly).

  • Emerging Farmers Outreach Lead

We are currently looking for someone who is passionate about justice, farming and building community food systems to lead an outreach and organizing initiative for NJ’s BIPOC (black indigenous people of color) Farmers, as well as do a bit of research of examples of Black Farmer Funds and statelevel programs in other states (e.g., NY State). Experience with community organizing is greatly appreciated.
