WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19

No new legislation was introduced on Monday due to the federal holiday. On Thursday, February 22, the Assembly Commerce, Economic Development and Commerce Committee met. The following Bills that we’re tracking were on the agenda.

  • A2320 Requires Department of Agriculture to take various actions to publicize and promote community supported agriculture in New Jersey. Swain / Sauickie

    This bill is significant. It creates a non-lapsing fund for promotion and marketing of NJ CSA’s and requires the Department of Agriculture to list and promote CSA’s, celebrate annually, national CSA Week, in February, and expands the NJ Farm to School Program in several significant ways, including supporting schools to increase capacity to source and utilize locally produced foods.   • A3697Appropriates $500,000 from constitutionally dedicated CBT revenues and "2009 Farmland Preservation Fund" to State Agriculture Development Committee for municipal planning incentive grants for farmland preservation purposes.Spearman / Park

  • A3698 Appropriates $1.723 million from constitutionally dedicated CBT revenues and "2009 Farmland Preservation Fund" to State Agriculture Development Committee for grants to certain nonprofit organizations for farmland preservation purposes. Reynolds-Jackson / Freiman

  • A3742: Requires Secretary of Agriculture to establish Farm to School Local Food Procurement Reimbursement Grant Program to reimburse school districts for costs expended in sourcing and procuring local foods for students; appropriates $6,500,000. Freiman, Roy/McCoy, Tennille R./Drulis, Mitchelle. On 2/22/2024 it was introduced and referred to Assembly Commerce, Economic Development and Agriculture Committee
